Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is one of the most common and consequential complications faced by patients on mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit. It develops when respiratory pathogens colonize the lower airway of an intubated patient, often as a result of micro-aspiration around the endotracheal tube, biofilm formation within the ventilator circuit, or lapses in oral and airway care. This CME programme is built on the understanding that VAP, like many device-associated infections, is substantially preventable through consistent bundled care.
